A Terrible Beauty by Graham Masterton
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Read: November 2006
I gave this book 4 stars as it read more like a dark, gruesome crime novel than an outright horror, although it is certainly horrific.
Figuring out who the culprit was trying to resurrect the demon Morgana halfway thru the novel did reduce some of the suspense.
In saying that, this story is creepy, the torture and death scenes are truly SICK! The killings are extremely graphic & disturbing, Masterton goes to great lengths to describe the physicality of what happens to the victims & it is certainly not for the faint hearted.
As an eighty-year-old mystery unfolds, Detective Superintendent Katie Maguire is marked as the next victim in a series of bizarre ritualistic murders, for what happened once in a small Irish village is happening again. This is murder and Irish mythology at its most malevolent.
