Giveaway - The Season Of Second Chances by Diane Meier

Publication Date: 30th March 2011

Synopsis:
A world of possibilities opens up for Joy Harkness when she sets out on a journey that’s going to show her the importance of friendship, love, and what makes a house a home.

Coming-of-age can happen at any age. Joy Harkness had built a university career and a safe life in New York, protected and insulated from the intrusions and involvements of other people. When offered a position at Amherst College, she impulsively leaves the city, and along with generations of material belongings, she packs her equally heavy emotional baggage.

A tumbledown Victorian house proves an unlikely choice for a woman whose family heirlooms have been boxed away for years. Nevertheless, this white elephant becomes the home that changes Joy forever. As the restoration begins to take shape, so does her outlook on life, and the choices she makes over paint chips, wallpaper samples, and floorboards are reflected in her connection to the co-workers who become friends and friendships that deepen.

A brilliant, quirky, town fixture of a handyman guides the renovation of the house and sparks Joy’s interest to encourage his personal and professional growth. Amid the half-wanted attention of the campus’s single, middle-aged men, known as “the Coyotes,”and the legitimate dramas of her close-knit community, Joy learns that the key to the affection of family and friends is being worthy of it, and most important, that second chances are waiting to be discovered within us all.

Wow, what would I do with a second chance? I think I'd try to be a better person overall. A better daughter for my parents, a better sister to my brother (we fight alot) and a better friend. Also a better girlfriend, not nagging all the time and being jealous...

    Thansk for the great giveaway!

  12. f I had a second chance, I would grab it. I'd did my best for something that I might miss. I know it might change something that I have now. But who knows what will happened next. There is another chance, why don't use it.

  13. I would love a second chance raising my boys... when they were really young Al and I both worked a lot to make ends meet.... we both had high capacity jobs and worked long hours, I swear the early years they were raised by sitters...

Now I see that having the little "extras" in life was not that important and I wish I would have spent more time with them.

  15. Phew! What would I do with a second chance? Hmmmmm...maybe go back into my youth and determine to not play a victim. 30 is too long to take control of your own life instead of blaming everyone else for your lot!

  16. If I had a second chance I would get my oldest daughter in for testing for Aspergers alot sooner, we just did it this year and she is ten - looking back there were signs five years ago and we just did not realize. If she had been my second child and not my first I would have done something. I wish with all my heart I had a second chance. (She will be just fine though :)
