It's Monday! What Are You Reading? and Update

A weekly event hosted by Sheila from Book Journey to discuss your reading week ~ the books you've read and those you plan on reading in the coming week. Thanks Sheila :)

Another busy week with book club, appointments and the Queen's Birthday long weekend of miserable weather spent visiting uncles and aunts we haven't seen for over a year.  Rain, drizzle, gale-force icy winds (I hate winter) ... better weather for snuggling in bed with a good book!

Book News: many of you want to know how the book club discussion on Fifty Shades of Grey went. Considering the age range of book club participants, early 20's to late 50's, all gave the first book a big tick of approval.

  • general consensus was positive
  • some had read erotica previously, some hadn't
  • two were a little grossed out by one scene
  • all managed to overlook writing flaws
  • most thought it was about more than the sex
  • ... but the sex scenes were hot
  • a few wanted their husbands to read it ;)

I had the most fun ever doing my review of the Fifty Shades Trilogy.

Karen will be guest reviewing again this week. FAR HORIZONS by Kate Hewitt; from the Highlands of Scotland to the Canadian wilderness. By the looks of Karen's review we are in for a treat.

  1. I'm glad the book discussion went well and that the book was positively received. I enjoyed your review of it. :)

I forgot that it is winter in Australia. :( Winter is my least favorite time of year. I hope you have more pleasant weather this week!

  2. I love that your book club read and reviewed 50 Shades. A girl in my book club and her hubby are both reading it... I thought that was kind of funny, they also said the book was more than just about sex.

I have book club this week, we are reading something a little tamer...LOL :)

  3. I have Glow on my TBR - and I love that your book club took the 50 Shades plunge - I don't know that I could ever read them, but I imagine discussing them in a group setting would be fun!

  5. :) First - Thank you for voting for Daisy Jane! <3 you!

Second - I e-mailed all of my friends at the library your review of the 50 Shades books and they loved it :) The women who have read it at work really like them. I've teased one of the ladies that she's going to be tying her husband up before the end of the month. So funny! Loved your review again!

Third - Whew! Have an awesome week! I watched a little bit of the Queen's Birthday celebrations on the TV. :)

    Have a great week!! :)

  7. Most people I know had a positive response to Fifty Shades. I wish I could read it to decide for myself but my first person pet peeve kind of rules that out.

    Enjoy your books!

Here's my Weekly Review. Stop by if you get a chance.

  12. I still haven't read the Fifty Shades of Gray series and quite honestly, not sure if I will. It did come up a few times this weekend, though - my brother was at a party and said all the women were talking about it, and then friends of ours said both he and his wife read it. Still on the fence about it.

What did you think of The Good Father? I really liked it and want to go back and read some of her other books. I forget how good a storyteller Diane Chamberlain is.

    Have a great week!

  14. Your review of 50 Shades was 50 kinds of awesome....and I'm tempted. But there are a couple of things (bad writing and the extreme buzz) which might put me off. We'll see.

Hope you enjoyed The Good Father. Have a great week!
