Short & Sweet Review: Somebody To Love by Kristan Higgins

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: 24th April 2012
Pages: 424
Book Source: Own purchase

Synopsis: After her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. First order of business: go to Gideon's Cove, Maine, to sell the only thing she now owns -- a decrepit house in need of some serious flipping. When her father's wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she's not thrilled -- even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox.

Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist's assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn't the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn't the only thing that needs a little TLC.

My Thoughts:
Regular everyday people deserve HEA's too and no one does it better than Kristan Higgins. I'd be seriously missing out if my friend Karen wasn't a Kristan Higgins nut fan. Karen and I shared a special time at the Australian Romance Readers Convention this year; laughs, tears and semi stalker-ish moments with the totally lovable Kristan. Now I admit my KH collection isn't as obsessive extensive as Karen's but it's growing nicely, along with my fan girl crush.

Now back to the book, it's about stepping up when the chips are down, owning your 'baggage', learning to trust and being rewarded with a happy ever after.

I adored Somebody to Love and I loved Parker and James together. Sweet, smart, sad, romantic fun with plenty of laugh out loud moments, except that mouse in the pants scene ... that was so NOT funny. *shudder*

You know the best part about coming late to the Kristan Higgins party? Yippee, a back list. I can't wait to revisit Gideon's Cove, I think I'll read Catch of the Day next and catch up with Maggie and Malone.

Final Thoughts: As good as chocolate and calorie free :)

  6. Our weekend at ARRC was really special Teddyree....one I think of often and usually with a silly grin on my face! So pleased you love Kristan's stories...and the icing on the cake is that Kristan was such a lovely person. You'll have to let me know what you think of Malone (Catch of the Day) when you finally get to read his story.
