A weekly event hosted by Sheila from Book Journey to discuss your reading week ~ the books you've read and those you plan on reading in the coming week. I love this meme, it helps me stay on track ... well, most of the time. Thanks Sheila!
A pretty good week for reading, reviewing and blog visiting but I need to get the review backlog under control. Wish me luck :)
It's Callum's birthday this week (he's my youngest) ... 20 years old, where has the time gone? For that matter, a minute ago it was the start of April lol. With everyone's work and social schedules I'm hoping a family dinner will eventuate.
Brisbane city ... after a number of failed attempts to get some nice photos of our city at night I had a light bulb moment with camera settings and was so happy with how this one turned out.

THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES by Sue Monk Kidd (audiobook) ~ Jenna Lamia is a favourite narrator
ECHO IN THE BONE by Diana Gabaldon ~ I honestly can't remember whether this one's a re-read, the first chapters are familiar but maybe I didn't finish it?

Reviews Coming:
SIX YEARS by Harlan Coben (audiobook) ~ good audio, not my favourite Coben
WHILE WE WERE WATCHING DOWNTON ABBEY by Wendy Wax (audiobook) ~ loved the story and the narration.
KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL by Anthony Bourdain (audiobook) ~ rude, crude, drugs, sex, depravity, oh and food, not for the faint-hearted but hilarious.
THE MIDWIFE: A MEMOIR OF BIRTH, JOY AND HARD TIMES by Sandra Worth ~ well worth the read even if you've watched the TV series Call the Midwife.
Love your photo of the city, you caught the lights and reflection beautifully. I noticed your sticky date recipe, I like dates but not caramel sauce! So happy you loved Four Friends - awesome book. If you finished An Echo in the Bone there was a big cliff hanger - I was so annoyed at the time - but now it seems all in the distance. I think I will just speed read my copy, to refresh my mind, once I started reading it much of it came back. I have put the Sue Monk Kidd book into my wishlist at audible. Nice to know the narrator is recommended.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathryn. Argh a few friends have mentioned the cliffhanger with An Echo in the Bone, surely my memory isn't that bad lol. I obviously didn't finish it. Just wish it wasn't such a doorstop, don't really have time for a chunkster but want to get up to date before the last book.
DeleteGlad it was a good week, I actually got some reading done for a change too! :) Let's hope this week is as good. Hope your books are great.
ReplyDeleteNice picture of Brisbane, beautiful city!
Yay glad you got your reading mojo back :)
DeleteHappy Birthday to Callum! And I love the pic of the city
ReplyDeleteThanks B I was pretty chuffed with it.
DeleteYou should be proud of that great photo!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your reading week.
Happy Birthday to Callum!! And loving that cityscape photo!!!!!
ReplyDeletePassing on the birthday wishes Julie :)
DeleteLovely photo of Brisbane...and I hope you love The Secret Life of Bees as much as I did. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteMy recap: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2014/04/weekly-book-recap-64.html
Thanks Catherine and I'm only a couple of chapters in with The Secret Life of Bees but I'm enjoying it, it's a joy listening to Jenna Lamia
DeleteNice picture! You captured a beautiful shot.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read An Echo in the Bone yet. I need to get caught up on this series but the books are so big! I feel like I'd need to start by rereading the four books I have read before I move on to the rest. Are you planning to watc the show?
This month has just flown by but I am eager for May (and being able to pack away my sweaters finally). Good luck on getting caught up with your reviews. I am definitely behind with mine.
I hope you have a great time with your family celebrating Callum's birthday!
Aww thanks Christina.
DeleteI was almost sure I'd read An Echo in the Bone, but everyone's telling me it ends on a massive cliffhanger so surely I'd remember that lol. I want to read it before Written in my own Hearts Blood comes out but it's daunting being such a chunkster. And yes I'm beside myself with excitement over the show? Will you be watching it?
Amazing photo! I know what you mean about time rushing by. I seem to have skipped over March this year. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteScary isn't it, how fast the months are flying, I need time to slow down just a little lol. Have a great week Kathy!
DeleteHappy birthday to Callum! How do they grow up so fast? LOL
ReplyDeleteBrisbane is awesome...
I hope to start reading Waiting for Wednesday this week so I'll be ready for Thursday's Children. I love this series!
Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
Hi Sheree,
ReplyDeleteI hope that you manage to get some family time together, to celebrate Callum's birthday.
Your picture of Brisbane is pretty spectacular, it was obviously a very still night, as those reflections are almost perfect.
I shall be interested to know what you think of 'The Secret Life Of Bees'. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I wouldn't be able to cope with it as an audio book, I just can't be doing with them!
My review backlog is also pretty spectacular and as much as I try, I just can't seem to bring it under control. I tell myself that I'll get the review written just as soon as I finish reading a book, but another posting deadline comes along and that's it ... game over!
I do make notes to remind myself of the salient points in a book, but I just know that one day I am going to forget a storyline totally!
Have a great reading week,
Yvonne
I so hear you on the review backlog! Nearly jumped for joy when I completed one last evening =)
ReplyDeleteSecret life of bees will be sure to please - great movie too!
HaPpy reading =) which ususally isn't the hard part right?
The photo of Brisbane at night is gorgeous! My youngest will be 20 in July and I feel you. In the blink of an eye from babe to adult. Hope you all get together and happy reading Teddyree !
ReplyDeleteLovely photo! I hope to reread Echo in the Bone before MOBY comes out. Have a great week. Happy Birthday to Callum.
ReplyDeleteYes time does fly - a quarter of this year almost gone. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great photo! I have Secret Life of Bees in print but maybe I would get to it sooner on audio.
Happy reading and listening!
Gorgeous photo! I want to visit!
ReplyDeleteI read Comfort of Fences too. A good read.
ReplyDeleteYou had a great week.
THANKS for sharing.
