Synopsis: At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.
Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…
My Thoughts:
Thanks to my friend Karen (who guest reviews here) for raving about Maybe Someday and cheering when I finally picked up my first Colleen Hoover book. I'm so happy I did. Colleen Hoover's writing is smart and funny and sweet and refreshing and she's big on music.

I have a thing for stories with music.
Music has always played an
important part in my life, it's my warm place and safe harbour, it connects
people, it comforts, inspires and uplifts. Music plays an integral part in
Maybe Someday, it's a character in itself and I LOVE that in a book. The
unique thing about the music in Maybe Someday is, Sydney and Ridge write the
lyrics, they connect through music, it's their way of communicating, expressing
themselves, the music moves the story forward.
I loved what was happening between Sydney and
Ridge, their dynamic, the humour, awkwardness, the sweet heart-skippy feeling it gave me. BUT it didn't sit
well that Ridge was emotionally cheating on his girlfriend and I didn't buy
into his bullshit justifications. It felt real, I might not have liked it
(that's just me) but Colleen Hoover kept it real.
Maybe Someday is sensitive, emotional and surprisingly refreshing. I wish I could tell you why it is so refreshing but that would spoil things so just trust me and read it :)
I think I might dive into Ugly Love next. All you die-hard Colleen Hoover fans out there ... any other recommendations?

Thanks for an enthusiastic review
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by Mystica, I am an eclectic reader but really haven't tried much New Adult, nice that this one was such a goodie :)
DeleteLove your review!! I'm so glad to see you enjoyed this one. As you know, I'm a huge CoHo fan - Ugly Love is my absolute favorite. I highly recommend it! Then I would say Hopeless would be the next best one to read. :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for Ugly Love knowing it's your absolute favourite and I'll definitely add Hopeless to my wishlist :)
DeleteHmmmmmmmm I will have to check her out!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't wait as long as I did Julie lol
DeleteRead Hopeless, it is a must!
ReplyDeleteThanks Natascha, you're the 2nd person to mention Hopeless so it's on the list!
DeleteI guess it's like with me and books with food ;)
ReplyDeleteYES that's it B and I'm the same with food in books too. Music and food ... I think I'm really Italian or French ;)
DeleteA lovely review. I'm not a huge romance reader but I like when it has humour and fun added in.
ReplyDeleteHope you give it a go Mandy :)
DeleteLooks like another good one!
ReplyDeleteMy first Colleen Hoover Sheila but I'll definitely try more!
DeleteInteresting to see you very happy with Colleen Hoover - I tried one of hers - a novella Finding Cinderella and just didn't like it. Maybe I was tired or something. Perhaps I might give her another go.
ReplyDeleteI know Kathryn, I wouldn't have picked it up if it wasn't for Karen's recommendation and I'm so glad I did. Maybe Finding Cinderella just wasn't up to standard?? I don't know but I'm definitely going to read Ugly Love and the other book mentioned in comments was Hopeless so I might get to it too.
DeleteYes should probably read a full novel to find out whether or not I like her style.
DeleteLooks fun!
ReplyDeletea very different fun and the music was wonderful!
DeleteYour review is fabulous Teddyree. I am so pleased that you enjoyed Maybe Someday. Feeling good I could recommend a good read for you for a change, as you've sent so many good recommendations my way.
ReplyDeleteUgly Love is high on my wish-list...it has some great reviews too. I wonder which of us will get to read it first???
Aww thanks Karen, so happy I finally picked it up. Can't remember whether you felt the same way about what I class as 'emotional infidelity'. Everyone seems to rate Ugly Love highly, even better than Maybe Someday so I can't wait to read it but I have quite a few review books to get to first. I'm thinking you'll be all over that one before me lol
DeleteI loved Maybe Someday too! I listened to it on audio and it was amazing. I have Ugly Love in print and on audio, not sure which way I will go with this one.
