Series: Lorien Legacies #2
Publication Date: 23rd August 2011
Pages: 406
Book Source: Own Purchase
Synopsis: I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened in
Ohio. John Smith, out there, on the run. To the world, he's a mystery. But to
me . . . he's one of us.
Nine of us came here, but sometimes I
wonder if time has changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I
know? There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact
with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we'll be
equipped to fight. Is John Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I've
been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the
raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers
that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong
enough to bring the six of us together?
They caught Number
One in Malaysia.
Number Two in
England.
And Number Three in
Kenya.
They tried to catch
Number Four in Ohio—and failed.
I am Number Seven. One of six still
alive.
And I'm ready to fight.
My Thoughts:
The Power Of Six is a fantastic second
installment picking up where things finished in I Am Number Four. Far
from suffering from second book syndrome, The Power Of Six qualifies as
Awesomesauce!
Urban Dictionary
definition for Awesomesauce: prepared by mixing equal parts of awesome,
amazing and breathtaking. The awesomeness is slowly cooked and small parts of
uncanny, extraordinary and magnificent are added. When no one expects it, the
awesomesauce should asplode in huge fireworks, sonic booms, gorgeous
girls, american flags and monster-trucks. ok ... maybe a
little over the top ;)
John (Four), Sam, Six and Bernie Kosar are on the run from the Mogadorians and the authorities making things pretty hairy for them and nail-biting intense for me. We're introduced to a new member of the Garde hiding in Spain, Marina, number Seven, a welcome addition to this kick-ass group and dual narrator of the story.
With rapidfire jumps from the US to Spain, the pace and tension intensify - I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, edge-of-seat, heart racing, sick dread bubbling. Seriously this book packs an almighty punch and up-sizes adrenaline while it's at it.
Lorien vs Mogadorian- we get a front row seat for every formidable battle, learn more about Loric lore, and watch the development of some pretty cool legacies.
I have to say John isn't my favourite character, he's actually a bit of a dick in this book. Surprisingly this didn't impact on my overall enjoyment of the story, there was just so much action I didn't have the time, mental energy or inclination to give John's shortcomings more than a passing thought.
The Power Of Six is absolutely
addictive, don't be expecting to put it down.
I was lucky enough to snag a copy of
THE RISE OF NINE on NetGalley so my review for it will be up next week in line
with the August 22nd release date.
Check out my review of book 1 I AM NUMBER FOUR
About the author:
Pittacus Lore is the psuedonym for James Frey and Jobie Hughes. They co-author for I Am Number Four and The Power Of Six but Jobie Hughes stepped away after The Power Of Six was released.
