Too Hot To Handle by Victoria Dahl

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Jackson #2
Publication Date: 26th March 2013
Pages: 320
Book Source: Harlequin & NetGalley

Synopsis: This good girl's going bad…. Merry Kade has always been the good girl. The best friend. The one who patiently waits for the guy to notice her. Well, no more. Merry has just scored her dream job, and it's time for her life to change. As the new curator of a museum in Wyoming, she'll supervise a lot of restoration work. Luckily she's found the perfect contractor for the job.

Shane Harcourt can't believe that someone wants to turn a beat-up ghost town into a museum attraction. After all, the last thing he needs is the site of his dream ranch turning into a tourist trap. He'll work on the project, if only to hasten its failure …until the beautiful, quirky woman in charge starts to change his mind.

For the first time ever, Merry has a gorgeous stud hot on her heels. But can she trust this strong, silent man, even if he is a force of nature in bed? When Shane's ulterior motives come out, he'll need to prove to Merry that a love like theirs may be too hot to handle, but it's impossible to resist.

Karen's Thoughts:
Ordinarily I love Victoria Dahl, but this one fell flat for me. As usual with me, I can’t really pinpoint why… sometimes it’s just a matter of hitting the right notes or not and sadly this one didn't. I felt there was too much detail and information but nothing really flowed or hooked me in. I found myself skimming just to find out the ending.

I didn't realise Too Hot To Handle was actually book 2 in the series, the first being Close Enough to Touch … I hate reading books out of order. It may have helped to have read the first book, I might have developed a familiarity and connection with the characters.

I would certainly recommend trying Victoria Dahl if you haven’t before, but maybe don’t start with this one. I gave the Donovan Brothers Brewery series 5 stars on Goodreads.

    1. Reading a series out of order definitely has an affect on my reading experience Julie...I think it would have helped had I read book 1 first. I do love this author though.

  2. I hate it when I accidentally read out-of-order!! I'm sorry that this one fell flat for you. I do understand what you mean though how some things just didn't click but you couldn't say exactly what didn't work. Been there and done that! Thanks for the review!!!

    1. I always feel terrible writing a review where I haven't loved a book but I have no idea why...I feel like I should have a valid reason. My reading is very mood orientated too. Lately I seem to be putting books aside after a chapter or two because it just isn't what I'm in the mood for.

  3. Sorry this one didn't do it for you Karen, I'm rather anal about reading in order I must admit. Will check out the Donovan series you've mentioned since you rated it so highly.

    1. Donovan series is great Teddyree...I have them in paperback if you'd like to borrow them next time we meet up. I do like Victoria Dahl so maybe I'll give this one another go after reading the first book in the series this time!
