Review: The Homecoming by Robyn Carr

Title: The Homecoming
Author: Robyn Carr
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Thunder Point #6
Publication Date: 26th August 2014
Pages: 400
Book Source: Harlequin Mira & NetGalley

Synopsis: At the age of nineteen, Seth Sileski had everything. A superb athlete and scholar, handsome and popular, he was the pride of Thunder Point. Destined for greatness, he lost it all in a terrible accident that put an end to his professional football career when it had barely begun. The people in his hometown have never forgotten what might have been.

Seth has come to terms with the turns his life has taken. But now he's been presented with an opportunity to return home and show his father—and the people of Thunder Point—he's become a better, humbler version of his former self.

Winning over his father isn't the only challenge. Seth must also find a way to convince his childhood neighbor and best friend, Iris McKinley, to forgive him for breaking her heart. With his homecoming, will Seth be able to convince the town, his family and especially Iris that he's finally ready to be the man who will make them all proud?

Karen's Thoughts:
I'm really enjoying Robyn’s Thunder Point series and The Homecoming is a good childhood friends to lovers story.

Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series is one of my favourites of all time, to me the Thunder Point series has a very different ‘feel’ to it. Each book has a theme or an issue central to the story and the romance takes a back seat to that. I applaud Ms Carr for not just repeating another series with the same story lines and characters in a different location.

At times I feel like this series moves at quite a slow pace and whilst I really enjoy each instalment, nothing really sucks me in and makes me feel like I can’t put the book down to do other things. The flip side of this though, is a guaranteed enjoyable read and a story that feels comfortable and much calmer.

I liked Seth.  He is a decent and honourable guy.

“I don’t want to move,” he said.  “Are you going to get mad if I say I need you? Because I need you, Iris.  Like I need air.”

If I had a complaint to make, it would be that we don’t often get to revisit with Thunder Point residents that we’ve met in previous books. There are no Epilogues and I find myself longing to know what everybody is up to but that's just 'me'. I'm always disappointed if there isn’t an Epilogue; I like that follow-up glimpse into the lives of the couples we've got to know and love.

I am just reading this one at the moment. I am enjoying it. I don't mind slow moving - but then I am of an age when slow moving is preferable! I like Seth too, he certainly had an life event that was life changing.

    1. Certainly was an event that changed the course of his life. I enjoyed Seth's relationship with Oscar and his family too. I can certainly relate to needing a slower change of pace at times! Glad you are enjoying The Homecoming Kathryn.
