It's Monday: Check-In Time

Linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer and It's Monday! What are You Reading? hosted by Sheila from Book JourneyIn Sheila's absence, share your Monday post on twitter #IMWAYR.

A bit of a crazy week

My eldest son was airlifted from his work site to Roma hospital during the week with chest pain and difficulty breathing, which turned out to be pneumonia and pleurisy. A few days in hospital with IV antibiotics and pain meds and he is back home in Brisbane to recuperate. His work company were superheroes and the treating Doctors in Roma far less so ...

When you are on your own, 6 hours from family and Doctors treat you like a mushroom despite repeatedly asking for information on your condition, it's more than a little stressful. I rang the hospital, spoke to his Doctor and played the 'nurse card' (shoot me, I may have over stated my current nursing status lol) Ok I lied and said I was still practicing. Last time I checked Doctors aren't God. This Doctor said to me "Oh I didn't realise you were a nurse. Good,  I don't have to talk down to you." Seriously WTH??

Failing to communicate 'relevant' information to a patient does not violate ethical principles but Doctor's arrogance should be grounds for complaint.

Antibiotics have cleared the infection but does anyone have any home remedies that help with the pain of dry pleurisy?

On a make-my-heart-happy note ... Stacy from Stacy's Books runs 5 word movie reviews for charity throughout the year. She also posts awesome book quizzes, insightful reviews and she's a supermum with a beautiful heart. Anyway, I topped the 5 word Movie Reviews this time around and chose Heartfelt in memory of my daughter Taleah, as the charity. Thanks to Stacy's generosity 2 families experiencing the unimaginable loss of a baby receive the gift of photographic memories.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart Stacy xx

  1. I hope your son gets better soon. Whata scary thing to happen and having to deal with a jerk for a doctor on top if that! Prayers for a speedy recovery.

  2. Prayers and best wishes for your son- how scary that would be. Poor guy... and that doctor sounds a bit arrogant, good grief.

I've heard so many good things about Eight Hundred grapes...

  3. Yep Doctors sure aren't gods. Sorry have no home remedy for dry pleurisy. So hope he is completely well soon.
800 Grapes I gotta read! And am looking forward to your final thoughts of The Precious One. So many great books. But that is so good! Enjoy running around with Mia.

  7. I hope your son will be feeling 100% very soon. How scary for him and you!
I really liked 800 Grapes and The Precious One is on my wish list (think I want to listen to it). Congrats to you and Stacy on the donation to Heartfelt. What a wonderful organization.

  8. I'm so sorry to hear about your son and hope he recovers quickly! That's so awful that they treated him that way! I don't blame you for doing what you did to get answers, I would have done the same thing. ;) Great job on steps last week!! I'm SO curious to see what you'll think of Racing the Sun. I've read one book by that author awhile ago and enjoyed it. I have this book to read, but haven't decided if it's worth it. I trust your judgement on it. Have a great week!

  10. So glad to hear that your son's condition has improved. What a scary time for all of you, him included. Me, I don't understand doctors who don't communicate. It boggles the mind. I totally understand your need to have information and as you are a nurse, what does it matter if you still get paid for that? A nurse is a nurse for life, I suspect. My daughter is a nurse and I've heard a lot about all kinds of medical frustrations - LOL. Have a good week and here's hoping your son's health will improve even more this week.

  11. I'm glad to hear that your son is doing better. Sometimes doctors seem to forget that their patients are most likely smart people. So annoying! Come see my reading week here. Happy reading!

  13. I am so sorry your son had to experience that kind of treatment by the staff that is supposed to be taking care of him! Whenever we have a medical situation like that, I get my Dr. sister-n-law involved so we get all the information! Glad you played your nurse card. I am taking care of Cole for three days, so I am sure my step count will be way up!

  15. Happy thoughts for your son's recovery. That had to be scary for you; I would be scared to death if my son was airlifted anywhere. I enjoyed My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry for the eccentric characters and overall theme, but the fairy tells tended to become tiring. I still have Ove to read this year and am looking forward to that one.

  16. So sorry to hear about your son's difficulties. I hope he gets all better quickly. I'm glad you were able to step in by phone to help those care givers.
Funny how chasing after little ones adds to our 'mileage'.
I hope your own health issues have settled out a bit.
    Enjoy your reading.
