It's such fun to meet an author you've established an online friendship with and find that author is as delightful & down-to-earth in person as they come across online.
Yes I'm talking about Aussie author KATHERINE HOWELL. Katherine draws on her extensive experience as a former paramedic to bring us nail-biting, breath-holding, do-your-head-in trying-to-figure-it-out crime fiction. Over the course of 5 terrific books Katherine has fast become a favourite author of mine and regular readers of my blog will probably remember how fussy selective I am in this particular genre.
Katherine with her latest release Silent Fear & Victoria Point Library staff
Katherine is also a really amusing speaker; she had a packed library audience laughing as she regaled us with stories of paramedic cases and of course her road to publication. Being a total gore whore I have to say I was fascinated with all blood & maggot mentions but I came close to gagging when Katherine made reference to what sounded to me like a mutant form of sputum.
Katherine's latest novel Silent Fear (Ella Marconi #5) can certainly stand alone (as can all the novels in the series) but I've loved getting to know Detective Ella Marconi throughout the series. She reminds me of Deb Morgan (but less of a potty-mouth) from the awesomeness that is the TV show Dexter. In the interest of sharing my love of Katherine's work and getting you started on the series if you'd like to win a eBook copy of Frantic (Ella Marconi #1) check out the giveaway below.
And for any thriller fans/readers/bloggers attending ThrillerFest VII in New York City, July 11-14th 2012 ... say hi to Katherine and check out this very informative and snigger-worthy FAQ post from Shane Gericke.

ReplyDeleteThanks Julie, meeting Katherine made my day!
DeleteLol, Deb Morgan but not a potty mouth, now that sounds like cool character
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely B, you obviously watch Dexter, not sure what Katherine would think of the comparison but I love Deb so it's a compliment to Ella Marconi ;)
DeleteSo cool that you were able to get there in time!! I must try her!!!
ReplyDeleteYou must Staci!!
DeleteThanks for the reminder. I've just started 'Frantic' based on your recommendation from ages ago. Xx
ReplyDeleteHope you love it Jenny, even though it's Katherine's first and her writing has obviously developed and become more polished, it's still one of my favourites :)
DeleteAlways interesting to meet a real life author.
ReplyDeleteI'm envious, unfortunately she is touring no where near me otherwise I would have jumped at the chance!
ReplyDeleteShelleyrae @ Book'd Out
What a bummer Shelleyrae. Have you read Cold Justice? ... definitely another favourite!
DeleteI would absolutely love to win a copy of this book...I'd also love to meet Katherine one day!
ReplyDeleteOh I have a Katherine Howell book on the TBR pile. Maybe it should get bumped up to the top. It's awesome you got to meet her. I love meeting authors especially as they rarely come to my neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteWe get quite a few authors in Brisbane but not as many as you would think for a major city. Katherine is just so sweet, it was a highlight finally catching up with her Caspette.
DeleteHa - 'snigger worthy' sounds good. :-) I commented on your review of Silent Fear. These sound like characters I would enjoy following. Thanks for the giveaway. mesreads At gmail.com
