24 Hours Up

It's 10.30 am and our 24 hours are up here in Australia. I left my reading party pals' home at 6am (my pals rested their eyelids for an hour or two & it was just too quiet without them) and headed home to family and bed. My bed was calling very loudly & after removing toothpicks from my eyelids I rested my weary little head. Unfortunately my wired brain then had other ideas, I listened to hubby snore & the wind chimes drove me insane so up I got.
I can't read as my eyes are just too sore (damn toothpicks) but I've been listening to my audio book & I'm going to do some cheering and blog visiting until it's time to take DS to his soccer game.
Don't forget to enter The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas Give-away - open to everyone not just read-a-thon participants (international visitors welcome)
Hang in there everyone - you're doing great!

Dewey's Love Your Local Library Mini Challenge

Another fun challenge - thanks for helping me stay awake The Curious Reader 1. What is the name of your local library? What city is it located in? Garden City Library in Brisbane, Australia 2. How often do you go to the library? If you're a regular, do the staff know you? I used to be a regular, borrowing 20 books at a time, then I turned over a psychotic new leaf and decided I just had to have the books sitting on my shelf. 18 months of buying has filled the bookshelves (bad book addict.) But I'm going to turn over another new leaf and return to borrowing. I'll get brownie points from my hubby and my bank account will breathe a sigh of relief. Besides the library now has paranormals *shock* - our library got cool in my 18 months away!! 3. Do you browse while you're there or just pick up items you have placed on reserve? Always browse, I never place anything on reserve because by the time the book became available, it had moss growing on it. LOL 4. What is your favorite thing about your local library? It's Free!!!!!!!! unless of course you don't get your books back on time and then you have to pay overdue fees and you may as well have just bought the book LOL

Read-a-thon - Update Hour 17

Well further to an earlier post - "when my brain is sleep deprived, when the old grey matter resembles mushy peas, the eyelids need toothpicks & the body looks nothing like the chipper little mouse to the left. Hopefully I won't be tempted to stab the chipper little mouse in his sparky little eyes with my handy little toothpicks ha ha" UPDATE: Brain - yep mushy peas Eyelids - yep toothpicks needed Body - failing fast and if that chipper little mouse keeps smiling at me I might just stab him in his sparky little eyes with my handy little toothpicks (after I pull them out of my eyelids) Don't say I didn't warn you mouse. Hours: 17 Books Completed: 3 Pages: 604 Challenges: 2 Book completed since last post: The House at Pooh Corner Commenced: Dark Prince by Christine Feehan - page 52 Audio book - Absolute Fear by Lisa Jackson

Introduction Meme

Where are you reading from today? From my BF's house, there are three of us; myself, best friend and best friend's daughter. I'm the only reader at my place, my husband and boys live under a rock LOL 3 facts about me … I travelled around Australia for 12 months in a caravan when I was a teenager. I have 2 boys and an angel baby (in heaven.) I am afraid of mice How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? 18 but I had to bring a choice, being at a friends place I don't have my bookshelves. Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)? Yep, stay awake for the whole 24 hours. 10 hours to go for us girls here in Australia. I would love to finish 6 books (not looking likely, but it's fun trying) If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, Any advice for people doing this for the first time? Nope I'm a virgin read-a-thoner but I have definitely found it helpful to have a few childrens books to fall back on when my brain is at its mushiest!

Evil Plan - Read-a-thon Update

Well I've finished book no 2 - The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas was great, but far from uplifting so my next book was The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton - a delightful visit with Fanny, Dick Bessie & Jo, Moon-face, Silky, Saucepan & the Angry Pixie and the lands at the top of the Faraway Tree. Next on the list for me is Dark Prince by Christine Feehan. We have an evil plan (actually it's Alaine's evil plan but I'm more than willing to be her evil offsider) - we slip Annie just a wee little sleeping tablet and we streak away in the reading stakes while she visits the Land of Nod *evil laugh* Ok revised plan Annie has taken an evil pill already (can't be sleep deprivation yet) and is now The Queen of Sarcasm so it won't be a wee little sleeping tablet, it will be a big fat one.

Off and Racing - 4 hour Update

The 24 hour read-a-thon may have to be re-named the 24 hour talkathon!! I think it was Dar from Peeking Between the Pages who commented how lucky we were to have company for the read-a-thon but at this point a little reading has been interspersed with a lot of mouth moving *psychotic grin*. On a positive note we have solved the problems of the world, entertained each other wiith a favourite quote/excerpt from our current read & basically had an enjoyable hour of reading the same line in a book for the 15th time. Don't you hate that! On a side note I'm really enjoying The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - so back to it! Sidetracked again - just have to leave you with this little tidbit 'Good morning, little man,' said Kotler, reaching out and - quite appallingly - ruffling his hand through Bruno's hair, a gesture that made Bruno want to push him to the ground and jump up and down on his head. Due to necessity we have set ourselves a mini challenge - NO TALKING FOR ONE HOUR

Hopefully I won't be tempted to stab the chipper little mouse in his sparky little eyes with my handy little toothpicks ha ha Suggested reading Teddyree: Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn Ring by Koji Suzuki The Painted Veil by W. Dewey's Read-a-thon

What's a Read-A-Thon, you ask? Well, in the the book addicts heaven, it's a 24-hour period of time that we set aside to do nothing but read. The Read-A-Thon was started by a beloved blogger named Dewey. When she passed away, several bloggers decided to keep it going in her memory. If you would like to participate in the Read-A-Thon, Saturday 18th April but haven't signed up yet, you can find all the details here. I'm very excited - it's going to be a great day, night, day LOL.
Myself and my fellow contributors & friends from Royal Reviews will be having a sleep-over without the sleep!!
For every book I read I will be donating a book to the Border's Victorian Bushfire Appeal. One of the requirements of the read-a-thon is to regularly update your blog so please visit me and my blog this Saturday/Sunday; leave a comment, cheer me on, keep me awake. Might even have a give away??
Any lovely authors out there who would like to offer one of their treasures for The Victorian Bushfire Appeal or as a give-away on my blog please let me know ~ Hugs in advance!!
Will post more about my reading choices and activities soon. Any advice or reading recommendations greatly appreciated LOL
